Last month, 4KE held their first ever debates of the year. We had been learning about the natural resources in Alberta; this included fossils. Students were then questioned about who they believed should own fossils, the person who found it or the government (people) of the country it was found in. There were many different opinions and they were put to good use as students teamed up and learned how to perform a debate! The debates were awfully close and really showed some great insight.

Over October, students made Halloween themed art. The Grade 4s practiced drawing characters in their sketchbook before drawing them on cardboard. They coloured the cardboard using markers before cutting out the various pieces and slotting them together to make a sculpture that could stand on it's own! Many of their pieces turned out cute and spooky.
Below are also a few pictures from the Halloween celebrations at the end of the month. After learning how to write proper paragraphs, students moved onto putting their writing skills into making postcards. Students learned about how to format a postcard, how the messages are casual and friendly compared to letters, and the importance of a matching image. For the final assignment, students sent a postcard to a person of their choice, including friends and family members overseas. The messages were all very sweet and the illustrations just as lovely! Hopefully, everyone will receive their postcards soon.
Apologies for not posting this sooner, but during the Waste and Our World Unit, students designed their own Mooncake Packages. The purpose was to explore packaging, why we need it and how can we reduce the waste it produces while still making customer friendly designs. Students had a chance to construct and then test their packages with a real mooncake inside. At the end, the slightly bruised mooncakes made a great treat!
