As we continue our unit on Plant Growth and Changes, students looked at bean seeds: one that had sprouted and one that had not. We learned about the parts of a seed and how seeds need certain conditions to be met before they can germinate. Soon, after the holiday, we will be using this knowledge to help us grow our own bean plants!

Recently, we finished up our Social Studies project of creating topographical maps of Alberta's regions. Students worked in their groups to make clay models of the landforms, animals, and plants in Alberta's different regions. For example, students built the mountains and glaciers from the Rocky Mountains, trees for the Boreal Forest, and the Arctic Fox from the Canadian Shield. It was the reason many students returned home with white dust on their clothes (I apologize!). The finished products look beautiful however! Above are the many pictures taken from the 2 week project.
In Math, we have been reviewing how to solve basic Multiplication Facts. To help us review, we played a game where students rolled a dice and used the number they rolled along with a number from their gameboards to make a multiplication problem. Whoever used the most numbers from the gameboard successfully would win. There were some very tight matches, with students only winning by a couple points!
