As our next simple machine, students learned about gears. We used a template to cut out and make our own gears. Students were able to observe how the teeth of the gears would interlock and rotate. They even connected a bunch of gears on their own, making their own gear drive system! We further explored gear drive systems by using the website gearsket.ch. Students used this website to discover the direction different gears would rotate in a system. They also discovered which gears would rotate the fastest, and which ones the slowest. Eventually, students even looked at chain drive systems, like those found on bicycles. We then learned about high gears and low gears on bicycles and how they would affect speed and control. It was a bit of a confusing concept but thankfully the website allowed us to see how it all worked!

In our new Drama unit, students have been learning about Choral Speech. So far we have been practicing how to use our voices in performances by doing breathing exercises to increase our lung capacity, chanting patter songs for projection and rhythm, and saying tongue twisters for better pronunciation and diction. To make a record of their progress, 4KE learned how to use a tool called Flipgrid. On this website, they made a small video of a tongue twister they had practiced.
You can all check out their videos at this link: https://flipgrid.com/24e7eb If you like, please leave a like on a video or two! :) The Grade 4s are really excited when they see all the views and reactions to their videos. |
