For Pink Shirt Day, we started off by watching the beginning of a video by Shane Koyczan called To This Day. We used this video to discuss how the rhyme "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is false, and how words could in fact hold meaning for a long time. Instead of spreading unkind words, we decided to make a poster where classmates could share words of kindness to one another. On pieces of confetti, students wrote thank you notes and why they appreciated their friends and teachers. We were able to make a colourful poster that showed our care and appreciation for 4KE. Please take a look at some of the highlights from the day!

For our latest art project, students were introduced to graffiti and more specifically, graffiti tags. We watched a video explaining what graffiti is and discussed our opinions on whether or not graffiti is a form of art or vandalism. Students then practiced making graffiti tags by drawing their name in different styles in their sketchbooks. They then worked on the final product by picking their favourite sketch and making their names stand out by using bright colours, bold outlines, and interesting lettering styles. The Grade 4s came up with a huge variety of styles, each unique to their own personality!
