Another great year has come to an end and I want to thank all the parents and students for making it possible. Thank you to the students for listening to me on both happy and the occasional grumpy days. :P And thank you to the parents for being so active and taking an interest in your child's learning. All the support and communication really helps make the year run productively. I can't wait to see returning students and parents again in the new year, and for those who have had to depart, I wish you all the best of luck!

Students learned about Pourquoi Tales, which are fictional stories that explain a why question usually relating to nature. After reading a couple examples and generating some ideas, students worked on authoring and illustrating their own books. The class was able to make a variety of picture books using Google Slides and clipart. Some students even went on to produce narrated videos of their books. It was fun sharing the finished products with each other! As one of their last tasks of the year, students made brochures about different tourist destinations in Alberta. By doing so, they learned about different historical and cultural sites, and also the importance of national/provincial parks in Alberta. There were a range of places that students researched and students could explore the diversity within one place.
Grade 4s worked on understanding shapes and symmetry in their Geometry unit. This unit involved a lot of hands-on activities including making 3D shapes with clay and building symmetrical quilt designs. It was a much different experience from mostly working with numbers and calculations.
