As their first research project, 4KE used the internet to look up information about four different types of decomposers: bacteria, earthworms, mushrooms, and mold. They put their skills of paraphrasing and using reliable websites to work, finding and putting information to hand drawn posters. It was a lot of work but a good start to using the vast resource of the internet for learning.

In an effort to learn how to use the thesaurus, students were challenged to describe themselves in ten words. They used the thesaurus to find more interesting synonyms of their words, expanding and adding to their vocabulary. Lastly, they made those words into a word design, using Word Art Creator. What resulted were posters full of personality!
While learning about decomposers, 4KE met our "class pets", the earthworms! I was very impressed by how adventurous the students all were, holding the worms and observing how they lived.
4KE was introduced to Alberta as their main topic of Social Studies. We gained a brief insight into what Alberta looks like through images, videos, and textbook readings. Students drew the various landscapes and learned about what a natural region is. We will further develop our understanding with bigger projects soon!
As their first set of Health lessons, students learned why and how they should protect their information online. To share their newfound knowledge, the Grade 4s practiced using Flipgrid. They recorded videos sharing tips and ideas, including how to make a strong password.
